Treasure Island is a study in contrasts. Prime location, gorgeous views, abandoned, decrepit buildings.

I visited Treasure Island yesterday for the first time, despite living in the Bay Area for 15 years and driving by it hundreds of times. My daughter played in a lacrosse tournament, which was held at a nicely developed set of fields, deep inside the island.

On the way, you realize how special this place is, with its location in the middle of the bay, and pristine views all around. You also see the contrast of locked-down, abandoned buildings, labeled with ASBESTOS warnings.

These photos sum it up. A view of the Bay Bridge, a blown-out laundromat, and a set of girls getting instructions before their next lacrosse game.
